Department of Chemistry

The Department of Chemistry was established in the year 1971 for intermediate science group. B.Sc. degree programme was started in the year 1979 and M.Sc. Chemistry was started in the year 2017 under self-finance stream. The Department celebrated its Ruby Jubilee in the year 2019, when Arul Anandar College started its Golden Jubilee celebrations. At present, the Department has 10 vastly experienced, well qualified and highly dedicated faculty members to mentor students and guide them. The Department is offering a three-year B.Sc. degree programme with Physics, Mathematics and Biochemistry as allied courses and a two-year M.Sc. Chemistry programme under Outcome Based Education (OBE) curriculum.

In addition to the regular Organic, Inorganic and Physical Chemistry, the curriculum includes papers in thrust areas like Green Chemistry, Medicinal Chemistry, Industrial Chemistry and Polymer Chemistry. The Department also offers Career Oriented Certificate Course in Clinical Nutrition and Laboratory Technology for the under graduate students. The Department uses computer aided programmes extensively for teaching.

The under graduate and post graduate programmes in Chemistry are designed to impart sufficient theoretical and practical knowledge on students in order to mould them to be self-reliant and confident to fulfil their future aspirations. The curriculum has been suitably modified to meet the challenging needs of the society. The Outcome based Education has been introduced in 2019 to integrate students’ performance with those needed in the workplace. The Department offers a vibrant atmosphere to students and faculty to nurture the spirit of scientific inquiry and to pursue knowledge in a highly encouraging environment.
