AAC Wins Higher Grade in Accreditation:

We are very happy to inform you that ARUL ANANDAR COLLEGE (AAC), Karumathur, has been awarded 'A' Grade with a CGPA of 3.66 by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council(NAAC), Bangaluru. As per the 2013 new Assessment guidelines of the third cycle of reaccreditation AAC has Won the second place in Tamil Nadu,and in the whole of south Tamil Nadu this college stands first. Besides,among the colleges that went for the third reaccreditation (both old and new guidelines) in Tamil Nadu AAC won the fourth place.

Rural College proved consistency in Quality:

Arul Anandar College (Autonomous), located in the serene village environment at Karumathur, has proved consistent in quality parameters consecutively for the third reaccreditation conducted by NAAC. The NAAC Peer Team that visited the institution during 12th - 14thFebruary 2014 validated all its credentials and accordingly this college has been accorded the highest grade 'A' with the cumulative grade point average of 3.66 as per the revised guidelines. Being a Jesuit institution for higher education, it caters to the multi-dimensional socio-cultural and economic transformation of the rural communities in the neighbourhood villages. Since its inception in 1970 this college has contributed to perceptible changes in the educational as well as livelihood scenario. Serving the poor and the downtrodden through its innovative educational mission, linking institutionalized development services with the farming communities, women and rural youth, undertaking need-based, location-specific research programmes, linkage with universities abroad for academic and research collaborations are the hallmarks of this premier institution.The unique academic Degree Programme, Rural Development Science, through its on-campus training models and off-campus extension activities, exemplifies an organic convergence of formal academic system and informal rural livelihood system. The essence of this orientation is inherently permeated into the breath and sweat of this citadel of higher learning and which is consistently confirmed by NAAC by awarding the most covetous Five Star Status in 2001 and subsequently the highest 'A' Grade with the CGPA of 3.52 in 2008. It is further confirmed by the third cycle of accreditation in February 2014 with a higher CGPA of 3.66 as per the revised guidelines. Among those colleges that underwent the third reaccreditation in Tamil Nadu the college got the fourth place and among the colleges reaccredited under the new guidelines, the college stands second in the State. Excellent learning ambience with need-based programmes provides sufficient options for the first generation rural youth. Curricular changes are made in accordance with the changes in relevant fields. Timely addition of new programmes at undergraduate, post-graduate and research levels facilitates both horizontal and vertical mobility of the rural students. Opening the portals of this institution to women is another venture aiming to establish gender equity in a social reality which experienced female infanticide. Ample provision for experiential learning with fully equipped laboratories, ICT enabled teaching-learning process, inclusion of programme-specific innovative learning methods, learner-centered pedagogic process, transparent evaluation system, etc. add credit to quality enhancement. Albeit locational challenges, this college has strived hard to provide modern learning environment. Effective teaching-learning is corroborated with efficient faculty with sustained academic enhancement. Greater percentage of the faculty consistently pursue higher educational degrees, update knowledge by attending regular orientation programmes, obtain minor and major research project, publish research outputs at national and international peer reviewed journals and also many of them publish books in their field of specialization frequently. Student mentoring by faculty is institutionalized by the college so as to facilitate the youth to overcome their difficulties and remain steadfast in their goal of augmenting knowledge and skills. Economically weaker students are offered financial support signifying the social concern of the institution. The talents and interests of the youth are identified and given professional guidance to participate in competitions at university, state and national levels. This has helped them won several prizes and bring laurels to the institution. Sense of social commitment is sown in the minds of youth through curriculum-integrated extension activities in the neighbourhood villages through ARISE, NSS, NCC, YRC, ROTARACT, etc. Besides, the mandatory bridge course for the freshers to improve the language skills, need-based remedial coaching to the slow learners, etc. are the special features in the college to enhance learning efficiency. Besides, learning facilities are furthered by ICT-integrated well equipped library system on the campus. Observing the growing needs of the primary stakeholders, the college has consistently added the infrastructural facilities such as increased class rooms, smart class rooms, additional hostels, mega indoor stadium, gym facilities, etc. Simultaneously the college also paid attention to the environmental concerns by introducing hybrid solar-wind power unit, bio-gas production from human waste, water conservation system through farm ponds, etc. The hostel inmates are given sufficient facilities to grow their specific talents by organizing such programmes as yoga, four wheeler driving, training to repair electric gadgets, karate, public speaking, etc. The people in the nearby villages maintain close association with theinstitution and support mutual growth. A network of Vaigai Farmers Association promoted by the college receives technical support from the professional faculty of the college for their day-to-day farming activities. Information being the essence of development, the college is consciously establishing e-resources so that this college will act as an information hub for the people in this region. Over the past four decades of its existence in this region, the college has created revolutionary social transformation through rural higher education. The present accreditation result is the corollary to the social commitment and the sustained service delivery system on the campus.
